上海美领馆新闻文化处请到重磅嘉宾 Tess Johnston 女士来为大家做名为“外国人在上海：1842-1949“的讲座。Johnston 女士会带领大家回顾这一百余年间外国人到上海工作生活的历史以及其间的逸闻趣事、他们对于城市建设发展作出的贡献、留下的文化遗产等。讲座后设有现场问答环节。

On March 14, 2018, the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Consulate General in Shanghai will host a must-hear talk titled “A Hundred Years of Shanghai’s Expat History in a Hundred Minutes (or less)” given by Ms. Tess Johnston. Focusing on the Western presence in Shanghai from 1842-1949, Ms. Johnston will give a short anecdotal history of each wave of foreigners who came to Shanghai, explain their contribution to the city’s growth, and touch on what each group left behind for posterity. A Q&A session will follow.

Tess Johnston 女士 1981 年以美国外交官的身份来到上海，1996 年，Johnston 女士从美国驻外使团的公职中退休，选择留在了上海，继续她的研究、写作和演讲。她和摄影师尔冬强合作出版了 25 本书，15 册是关于中国的西式老建筑和外籍人士生活史。她有超过50年居住在海外的经历，其中 40 余年都生活在亚洲。

Ms. Johnston first came to Shanghai in 1981 to work at the American Consulate General and in 1996, after over thirty years of diplomatic service, she retired and stayed on in Shanghai to research, write, and lecture. She and her co-author, Shanghai photographer Deke Erh (Erh Dongqiang), have published 25 books, including fifteen volumes on Western architecture and the expatriate experience in old China. She lived abroad for more than half a century, including more than 40 years in Asia.
